I have not read this book yet, but I have copy of davids Searles property guide which is excellent. very good comprehensive information. I eagerly await delivery of this one.
The property guide was my guide into buying a new home ( and life) in Spain, which is set to make me wealthy as well.
The Spanish system is very different from the English or American (yes, even Louisianan) system. This book explains everything in an incredibly readable manner. After inheriting a portion of a property in Spain, I needed to understand what I would owe (i.e. Inheritance Tax), what the lawyers there would do to help me, and what the steps would be to sell a property. This book has been incredibly helpful. But it also discusses in depth many other issues such as moving to Spain; becoming a resident; bank accounts; buying, selling and renting property; working in Spain; owning a car; etc. The author is a legal writer who has been working in Spain for 30 years. What I really like about this book is that its written from "our perspective", meaning that he will explain how we do something here (i.e. in England or US) and then how that would be done in Spain. It assumes no prior knowledge but goes into depth in an easily digestable way leaving you feeling like you really have learned a lot. This book is no substitute for using a lawyer in Spain, but after reading the chapters relevant to your circumstances, you will understand why you need to utilise the "gestoria" (middleman between you and the huge bureaucracy), "asesor fiscal" (accountant), notary and lawyer. You'll also feel better paying them and knowing what to expect over there. One final tip this book may be much cheaper ordered from the uk website.
Essential reading for anyone wishing to move to Spain, especially with all legal issues that can be contemplated when buying a permanent home. Right up to date.
